Happy Independence Day Philippines!

As we celebrate the country's independence and remember with pride how our heroes fought for this freedom, may we not forget to also celebrate and continue fighting for our own freedom and redemption.
Let's all be free from the tyranny of other people's expectations, fight off loneliness and pessimism, and rebel against low self-esteem, insecurity and self-obsession. Let's rise up from poverty and helplessness, defend ourselves from vices and unhealthy lifestyle, take a stand against hate and manipulation. Let's not be slaves of money, power, and fame; break free from selfishness, greed, and envy; and to triumph over too much self-preservation and pride. We need to be free from these chains that are pulling us down so we can reach our fullest potential.

As we march on to find our purpose and worth, may all our struggles give us wisdom, hope, and love -- because all of life is futile without them. I believe that we can truly stand up for something if we are strong from the core.

     Happy Independence Day Philippines!

The Sweetest Thing

Hello beautiful people, what's up?  Sorry for not updating this blog lately but don't think even for a minute that I've forgotten about you, my awesome and most loyal readers.  Anyway, I've talked about friendship on this blog several times in the past, particularly on these posts:  (Go ahead, read them if you haven't yet).
[L-R]: Bespren Kent, bestest JayB, MPC Yvette, Me, best friend Tokzzz and sexy AJ
And so, please allow me to write about the topic once more...

Stuff That Annoys Me

Last year on my birthday, I had a guest post written by a good friend.  It was exceptionally overwhelming getting to know myself from another person's point of view.  And so, though it's been more than a month after my birthday, I want my most loyal friends (those who take the time to read my posts) to know some stuff about me that's from my own point of view.

So, what can possibly annoy me?
One Important Thing About Me...

I try limit my expression of negativity because I believe that when we speak of it, it gets stronger.  However, I don't deny the truth that when we face and treat negativity as our enemy, there's the bigger chance that we can defeat it.  I still express my dislike, but I try to talk about it in a positive light.  And so on this post, I will introduce few of the things that I find annoying, but only because I'm thankful to be in the company of people who are just the opposite of what I'm about to discuss.

What I Do...

Life is Beautiful!

Last Sunday (October 16, 2011) after having dinner at Conti's in Serendra
and on our way to Starbucks to get our dosage of caffeine, we saw these
really cool Christmas trees.

My poem got published in a textbook!

     Hey guys!  I'm BACK!

     Did anyone miss me?

To those wondering where I've been --  I went home to my province last March to celebrate my dad's birthday.  Mom said I should stay 'till Holy Week is over.  Then Mother's Day was approaching so I gotta be there too and  after that -- Father's Day.  And then, cousins having their vacation in the Philippines was also visiting.  March became April, April became May, May became June...  I was having so much fun until -- it's already July!

Heartaches -- A Sad Poem

I finished the first five verses within two hours.  Then for wanting to make a positive ending, got stucked on the first line on the 6th verse.  I stopped and went back to it 15 minutes ago.  (The time is 10:24 PM now, March 06, 2011)

So here it is, another figment from my clouded imagination.  To those who are suspecting that I'm going through something, I can neither confirm nor deny that.  You can only speculate. Bwahahaha!

Have a great day!  I hope someone can relate to this humble piece of work.  Take care!

Heartaches...
How can love bring too much pain
When it's supposed to be a bliss
Why is it a hollowed life
An agony worse than death

Each time I close my eyes
I see just mem'ries of you
Then my weary heart just cries
How can love be so untrue

The world is vivid with life
But all I see are hues of gray
Every soul is full of hope
Still I'm lost in disarray

Just move on, I tell myself
Put a cogent happy face
Force a smile or sound a laugh
Hide the hurt thru all the haze

Dear fate, please, I beg of you
Lead my heart to someone's soul
Who'll look at me with eyes of love
And bring me pain no more

To Him I pray, heal my heart
Mend my broken self, make me whole
So I can be a worthy man
When the right one's at my door

Post Script:  This blog is still about looks.  Whatever season of life we go through, we need to have a look.  So go be sad, be happy or whatever, and choose your wardrobe appropriately.  Sometimes, it's how we carry ourselves that helps us cope.  *wink*

*This photo was taken at San Benon Hot Spring at the foot of Mt. Bulusan in Irosin, Sorsogon.

(FUCK) LOVE -- A Poem

Madam President might've told me one time that poems are like biographies of some sort.  They mirror one's feelings and life's story.  I should believe her, she's an authority on that area having taught Literature for so many years and having written many books and pieces on the topic.  Anyway, I still argued that it's not entirely true and there are a few exceptions.  Just like now, I have written this poem out of spite. Or maybe out of depression.  Whatever.  Haha! Here it is!

(FUCK) LOVE

Love is the most complex of all nouns
It's the truth that tells of many lies
It's the joy that causes pain
The sun when you wanted most, the rain

Love is the most complex of all verbs
To love is to die a thousand death
To think when all you need is to feel
To wound when all you want is to heal

Love is the most complex figure of speech
How ironic are its metaphors and similes
Its paradox are such an understatement!
Its thoughts and meanings are bent

Love is the most complex of all words
It can mean the ocean, the skies, the trees
It is solitude, contentment and peace
Sadly, it is also fear, our pain and tears

Love is the reality that never exists
It's that dream which won't come true
It's the light which got lost in the dark
It's the winding road that has no stop

My heart sored with wounds, eyes dried of tears
My sorry would have lost its meaning
Fuck love -- i say, but for sure you know
My fragile heart just won't let you go

Some thoughts on FRIENDSHIP

Hey guys, I'm back!  Did you MISS ME?  I hope so! It's been weeks
since I've last updated Show Me Your Look Today.  I've just been busy with life,
what else is new?  Ha!  So -- CHEERS to my coming back!
Let's drink iced tea to that.  (Photo below for proof, LOL!).

We usually hang out Friday nights for some drink then Banchetto feast after...

Anyway...  let me post some new pics and
let's talk about something that all of us,
at one time or another,
have had trouble dealing with.

So here are my thoughts on FRIENDSHIP...

Home Away From Home

Hey everybody!  Did anyone MISS ME while I was gone for the holidays?

Actually, I wasn't really away.  I just took some time off from blogging to sort out some stuff in my life.  It's kinda none of your business and I ain't telling even if you ask me. *evil laugh*

Anyway, I'M BACK.  But before I feature another friend, I'd like to post some photos of me, my bro and my sis taken during the holiday season.  Sadly, we spent our Christmas and New Year away from our parents... but there's NO stopping us from celebrating and feeling merry on this happiest time of the year.

Here are some of our Christmas pictures...

NICENESS...

Today's post is all about NICENESS...

Niceness is one thing that we are all capable of.  We can look nice, feel nice and treat other people with niceness.  Of course this is just one adjective that I can think of.  You may want to elaborate further.  You may want to refer to it as looking fantastic or stylish; being happy or content; being generous or humble; being dependable or down to earth...  but for me, it's simply being -- NICE.

Let me tell you about some of my recent adventures which I think were really nice...

Resident Evil on 3D with my siblings Hannah and Jeb many many weeks back.  It was my first time to watch a movie in full lenght 3D...

Post-Birthday Post...

It's been weeks since my birthday but I'm still getting a few greetings here and there.  Thanks a lot for the warm birthday wishes!  Special thank you to my guest writer who wrote a truly touching article about me.  That was one birthday gift I shall never forget!

I also wanna say thank you to my little sister Hannah for the cake!

Uhm... what did I do last November 4?  I was still awake at 12 midnight, got some greetings from my really close friends who always remember every year to greet me the moment the clock strikes 12.   I slept for 8 hours and I started my day around 10AM.  While drying my gel, I responded to some greetings on facebook, on twitter and on here.  My parents texted me and a few friends who knows my mobile.  At 3PM I went to Pasig church to hear mass and thank the Lord for all the blessings.  When I got there, there's a funeral going on and I was wearing black -- how convenient!  So I made a quick prayer of thanks, made a U-Turn and promised myself that I will go to church on the Sunday that will follow.  I went to the mall to buy some stuff for myself...  watched 'the social network' while munching on some pizza and sipping on a monster coke float... and had some coffee at Starbucks on my way home at around midnight.

My AWESOME birthday for 2010

Yay! Happy Birthday to ME!

To spice things up and to divert from the usual (and to make my birthday week a bit more special), I've asked someone to write my birthday post for me.

So... just who is my guest writer?  She's an accomplished author, an editor-in-chief of a publication in Manila, a brilliant professor, a trusted friend, a lady and a confidante.  If you've read my posts, I might've mentioned her somewhere on here.  Here's what she has to say about ME....

This was my profile picture on Facebook (which she obviously abhorred) at the time she added me...

He was a bane.  Until I got to know the real person behind the naughty profile pic then I came to realize that he was actually a boon.  Our common friend Butch Lotivio asked me to add him in facebook.  At that time, he wanted to gather all his friends so he asked me to add him in my list.  Butch must be kidding when he told me that his friend was a nice guy.  His profile pic showed otherwise.  But to do my friend a favor, I opted to add.  He did confirm days after and eventually changed his profile pic to something relatively amiable and ABSOLUTELY HANDSOME.

Real Name:     MICHAEL LOTINO MONTALBAN
Nick Name:     MYKE/BONG

There he is -- Michael Lotino Montalban to his friends in Facebook, Myke to his more familiar friends, Bong to his long-time buddies but to me, he is the Chief Justice.  (Sorry peeps, I will have to leave out the part on how he became the Chief Justice as that part seems to be the most boring part of his prominently colorful life.)

Then i changed my profile picture to this after a few days...

I barely know CJ (Chief Justice) -- given only a couple of months of sharing a love-hate kind of friendship with him.  What I am about to reveal here is just a small portion of how I see him but not a faint proof of how much I value this man’s friendship with me.  What I am about to say may or may not be true but I bet it would be totally interesting for those who want to know your kind of guy.

When animals teach US how it is to be HUMANS...

Before I feature another friend, I'd like to write a post about my two dogs: Yesha and Yassu -- and tell you guys how the two of them taught me to become a better version of myself.

Don't worry, Show Me Your Look Today is still about looks...  After-all, I think I look real nicey when I parade my dogs around. ☺

A little Background

I've had several dogs in my childhood, and one even bit me while we were playing.   I got bitten by another dog while I was in Nabua when I accompanied my college friends for their summer classes... and I definitely remember being chased by two Dobermans at Imperial Ridgeview while my classmate Nukie and I were in search for a sari-sari* store in the subdivision.  But that never discouraged me from owning a dog again.

in RETROSPECT

The comments my friends left on the last post somehow inspired me to put a little more writing to my entries.  As a consequence, there will be times when "Show Me Your Look Today" will discuss a little more about life's journeys.  I can't promise that I will be a perfect source of life's lessons, but I am certain that I will write with truth,  objectivity and compassion.  It will be my view of the world and our existence, my view of crossroads, of complexities and of other pressing issues -- Hopefully you might find something in it that will inspire you to make better choices, not just with clothes and stuff, but about other things that matter too.

Looking Back and Ahead...

Today, I wanna take a step back and look at things.  Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed, we can always stop and view what's happening in an entirely different perspective.  It's sometimes fun to halt for a while when things are moving in such speed and reflect on the past events that brought us where we are now.

A piece of my thoughts...

It was a Sunday of talk, books, pizza, tutti frutti and interesting ideas...

I don't like arguments.  I get along better with people who's got the same interests and opinion as me.  Contrary to what they say about opposites attract, I find it easier if I'm in the company of people whose ideas and interests are the same as mine.  If I needed to defend them, it would be easy because our thoughts and reasoning will be the same.  If I needed to suggest stuff, it would be easy too because it's what I'd do myself if I were on his/her toes.  If we need to hang out, it'll be fun because we've got the same likes or dislikes...

But reality tells us that not everyone we meet will agree with us all the time.  That's OK.  This world is big enough for people to co-exist with one another.  And as long as no-one's crossing the boundary of etiquette, religion and issues on morality, we can go on co-existing peacefully.
